Delegate Hecht was the guest speaker at the December meeting of the Community Improvement Project Committee of the Frederick Woman’s Civic Club. Attendees at the meeting held at the Steiner House in downtown Frederick included Club members and staff of the Frederick Child Advocacy Center (CAC). The Community Improvement Project committee sponsors year-round activities that support a child-friendly CAC facility in Frederick.
Delegate Hecht provided a legislative overview of issues facing the Maryland General Assembly, focusing on those related to violence against women and children and victim’s rights, especially those of children. She encouraged the attendees to contact their members of the General Assembly and express their views on legislation vital to victim’s rights.
“There is an overwhelming need for concerned citizens to be seen and heard in Annapolis,” Delegate Hecht shared with the members of the group. She explained how to research and track legislation at the General Assembly web site and the need to personalize written messages to Senators and Delegates by adding stories and information that make the request more compelling. She also praised the committee and the Frederick Child Advocacy Center staff for their dedication and hard work.
